Nominee for MTV’s brand new 2012!
With his tattoos and swagger, audiences often expect him to start spitting when he takes to the stage ‘because of the way I kick it’. On the contrary, the mixtape in question, ‘Patience Is A Virtue’, marked AnGeL as the angelic new face of UK R&B. He followed up the mixtape with an EP of original material dropped via regular videos on his AnGeL Vision TV Youtube channel. Titled the ‘7 Minutes Before Time’ EP it features the cream of grime and road rap as guests paired with AnGeL’s vocal; Sneakbo, Giggs, Maxsta & Wiley. It quickly racked up over half a million views. Here was a new voice making waves where the ‘best of both worlds’ of R&B and rap/grime meet.
Real name Sirach Charles, AnGeL has been immersed in music from the day he was born. His father was a top keyboard player, touring the world with reggae greats like Luciano, Dennis Brown, Misty In Roots and Aswad. His family home was filled with keyboards, guitars and recording equipment.
AnGeL working with his brother Kazza launched Parallel Music and have co-written the no.1 single ‘Green Light’ for Roll Deep, recorded at their studio in East London. Grime star Scorcher came round to record. Pixie Lott copped a track for her album (stars like coming round to ‘The Dungeon’ even if ‘they’ve got to sign a few autographs in the kitchen’).
In 2011 he sits poised on the brink of stardom; at a nexus between pop and road credibility. British R&B has found its leading man, the tattoos on his face a symbol of the far from saintly world he has risen from. And this time, it feels right for success; ‘you know when your body feels like it mentally and physically. As much as we thought we were ready back then we weren’t. And that’s just the truth.’
