With the current economic downturn hitting funding hard, Universities have faced huge cuts to their research departments. Post-graduates funded by Cancer Research UK have teamed up with students from across the capital to raise funds for the charity, one of the largest funding bodies for the top institutions leading the fight against cancer. The unique organisation aptly named Fusion @ London has seen students from across the capital unite for the first ever inter-University show with the aim of raising over £50,000.
On the 25th and 26th of February Fusion @ London will launch their first gala, a dazzling show fusing *FASHION, MUSIC and DANCE* at the iconic Troxy, Limehouse and hosted by Made in Chelsea stars. In a single show, you will see 11 themed acts, 16 dance scenes, 15 modelling scenes, 2 circus aerialists, sword dancers, a choir, a Jazz band and much more. With themed acts ranging from Circus, Beyond Retro, Arabian Nights, African & classical syncopation, Roaring twenties and many more, this is a show that will be packed with stunning performances and visuals.
The show cast of over 150 talented students will take to the stage in February having worked alongside some of London’s top choreographers including patrons Leigh Daniels and Cristian Valle. The 4000 audience will be treated to exciting collections from designers ranging from high street fashion stores such as Jaeger and Vivien of Holloway to London College of Fashion alumni including Ara Jo whose design has been worn by Lady Gaga and Nova Chiu who was recently announced as an emerging designer ‘To Watch for AW12/13’ by Vauxhall Fashion Scout. Throw in live music performances from well known artists to complete the stunning line up.
The cast and committee of the new organisation aptly called Fusion @ London have been drawn from London’s top Universities primarily Imperial, UCL and Kings but also involving students from LSE, London Met, City, Westminster, UAL, Queen Mary and many more. Continuing with the amalgamation theme, the pro Rector of Imperial and the Vice Principal of Kings College are joint patrons of Fusion @ London in addition to David Wilkie, a former Olympic & Common Wealth Champion. With the highly anticipated London Olympics, 2012 is the perfect year to host the first merger of London’s University students. Fusion @ London aims to foster a closer relationship between the capital’s student populations. Drawing from a talent pool of over 55,000 students the annual event allows them to be creative and gain skills beyond academic achievement.
